Summary: Follow the guide below and you will know how to import Sony DEV-5 3D MTS to iMovie without rendering or any other problems on Mac OS X(Mountain Lion, Mavericks included).

Sony ups the image quality ante with its new Sony DEV-5: a camcorder that gives the bird-watcher, sailor, hunter or sports enthusiast the ability to capture full HD 1920 x 1080/60p 3D video through binocular style lenses. When you got some 3D footage, you may want to import 3D AVCHD to iMovie or other Mac tools for editing to get a better effect video.

The only problem we are facing is that how can we import that kind of footages into your iMovie project. We found that Apple does not build in stereoscopic (3D) editing tools in Final Cut Pro, iMovie. So it is difficult for these camcorder users to edit Sony DEV-5 3D MTS videos in iMovie. Well, don’t’ worry. Here I will introduce one cool tool to you to help you import 3D .mts to iMovie 8/9/11.

Download and install Brorsoft 3D AVCHD Converter for Mac

This professional app helps you import native 3D stereoscopic AVHCD footage(2D as well) and export Apple InterMediate Codec .mov video, which can be imported to iMovie without rendering. Plus, this Mac MTS Converter also provides optimal presets for Final Cut Pro, FCE, Adobe Premiere Pro, Avid Media Composer, etc, ensuring smooth editing with different video editing programs on Mac OS X. Download the tool and follow the step-by-step guide.

How to convert 3D AVCHD from Sony DEV-5 to AIC for iMovie

Click "format" to open the output format drop-up list to select "iMovie and Final Cut Express--> Apple Intermediate Codec(AIC)(*.mov)" as the output format for Mac iMovie.

Tip: You may as well click Settings to set video size to 1920*1080, frame rate to 30fps for easy editing.
